Sažetak

The author of this article researches the perspectives for the Church for pluralistic activity in Croatian society. More often than not, the Church is seen as more of a unique subject rather than a pluralistic contributor in a democratic society. Hence, the author, in the first part of his article defines the term Church, pluralism in general, and researches its theological basis. These bases are to be found in Christian personalism, solidarity, subsidiarity and the common good, as basic principles of the social teachings of the Church and the documents of the Second Vatican Council, which are particularly elaborated.
In the second part of this article, the author presents the actual situation in Croatian society in which he identifies its negative traits that have a direct cause-and-effect relationship in social pluralism. Even though the Croatian government has in its constitution committed itself to a pluralistic and democratic society, and in its Concordat with the Holy See allowed for the liberal functioning of all levels of society, this same society suffers from three serious deficiencies with respect to pluralism: bipolar antagonism associated with corruption, only a formal multi-party system, and social apathy. The author sees the perspective for the Church for pluralistic activity in the pluralistic attitudes of the laity. Every believer according to his personal Christian conscience when concerned with social problems can offer a personal vision for a solution and a personal approach for its realisation. Accordingly, the laity should therefore, be involved in various parties and function in such a way that the respective parties evolve as real representatives of the relevant interests of society. The author believes that the problem in this approach is in the visible tendency, in parts of the Church, towards some kind of ecclesiastical movement, which may want to unite with another party movement and therefore threaten pluralism while still in its development.
