The autodestructiveness scale and the MMPI-201 in the assessment of suicide

The Autodestructiveness Scale and the MMPI-201 personality questionnaires were used to assess groups of male autodestructive subjects with attempted suicide (Nms=11) and male autodestructive subjects without attempted suicide (Nmns=22). The same procedure was employed with groups of female autodestructive subjects with attempted suicide (Nžs=25) and female autodestructive subjects without attempted suicide (Nžns=11).
The t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the results of male autodestructive subjects without attempted suicide and male autodestructive subjects with attempted suicide on the scale of psychopathic deviance (Pd) of the MMPI-201, the entire Autodestructiveness Scale and its subscales for suicidal depression ( Sd ) and aggression (Ag).
A statistically significant difference was determined between the results for female autodestructive subjects with attempted suicide and without attempted suicide on the Pd scale of the MMPI-201, the entire SAD and its subscales for suicidal depression ( Sd ) and aggression (Ag). Female subjects also showed a statistically significant difference on the control K-scale of the MMPI-201.
Male and female subjects with attempted suicide obtain statistically significant higher results on the MMPI-201 scale of psychopathic deviance, the entire autodestructiveness scale and its suicidal depression and aggression subscales. Female subjects with attempted suicide obtained statistically significant lower results on the MMPI-201 control K scale than did female subjects without attempted suicide.
