The Five-factor personality model and prediction of sensation seeking among adolescents and their parents

The paper presents the results of the study of the relationship between sensation seeking and dimensions of the Five-factor personality model. These relations were examined in groups of adolescent and adult male and female participants. Samples consist of high school pupils (N=151; 63% girls) and their parents (N=265; 56% females). The participants completed the Five-Factor Personality Inventory (FFPI) and Sensation Seeking Scale (SSS-V). The results indicate that the Five-factor model predicts sensation seeking reasonably well. This prediction was better for adolescents than for adults. Also, the prediction was better for the girls than for the boys in the adolescent sample. Beside that, the structure of predictors was different for the two generations. Extraversion and conscientiousness were significant predictors for sensation seeing in the sample of adolescents, while conscientiousness and autonomy were significant predictors in the parents sample.
