Sažetak

Jaundice in the breastfed infant is unconjugated, nonhaemolytic hyperbilirubinemia in the healthy infant. It can be presented as early form of jaundice, results in caloric restriction during first few days of life, known as early lactation jaundice or breast-feeding jaundice. Late form of infant jaundice is prolonged jaundice that can sometimes persist for 3-12 weeks of life. This form of jaundice is thought to be caused by inhibitory substances of mother’s milk; known as breast-milk jaundice.
In evaluation process is essential to observe many clinical symptoms and weight gain of the infant, to exclude the pathological causes of infant jaundice. Diagnostic approach could be rational to interrupt the unnecessary investigation. One of the diagnostic possibilities is identifying the unsaturated fatty acid in human’s milk.
The article especially accents the importance of therapeutic approach. It is unnecessary to interrupt the breast-feeding, but hold as longest breastfed, together with therapeutic measures decreasefor bilirubin decreasing, whether it is regarding early or late form of lactation jaundice.
