REGULATIONS ON NOISE PROTECTION AT THE WORKPLACE

Sažetak

SMMARY: The Regulations on Noise Protection at the Workplace were published in the no. 46 issue of the Official Gazette (Narodne novine), dated 23 April 2008. The Regulations were passed by the Minister of Labour, based on Paragraph 1 of Article 12 of the Safety and Health Protection at the Workplace Act (N.N., no. 59/96, 94/96, 114/03 and 100/04).
The Regulations establish minimum safety and health requirements regarding risks which appear or may appear as results of exposure to noise, especially those risks which may cause hearing impairment. These requirements apply to occupations in which workers are or may be exposed to noise-caused risks on account of the nature of their work.
Equivalent noise levels “during typical operations at a workplace” have been listed in the Annex to the Regulations.
The Regulations precisely determine the obligations of the employer in that he is to “investigate possibilities for noise reduction and/or expose the least possible number of workers to that noise”. This can be accomplished by the following measures: determination and assessment of risks on the basis of noise evaluation and noise level determination at the workplace; removal or reduction of exposure to noise; provision of hearing protection equipment for workers; limitation of exposure; employee counselling; health supervision, etc.
The Regulations came into force on 1 May 2008, and their implementation will begin in 2011.
