The Genealogy of the Faithful Subject: Christian Initiation in the Light of the Anthropology and Theology of the Ritual

The theme of this work is the interpretation of Christian initiation in the light of phenomenological anthropology and the fundamental theology of rituals. Starting from the fact that all sacral traditions recognise ritual initiation as an integral part of mediating in the identity of the believer, the author suggests a categorisation of Christian initiation in light of the genealogy of the faithful subject and the symbolic process of introducing him to the community of the faithful. The author's starting point is the problem of identity and anthropological crisis of initiation which lead to certain topical dimensions of this issue. The second part then is devoted to an analysis of the order of initiation and process of identity. The author attempts to systematically sketch out the anthropological phenomenology of initiation in light of the symbolic dynamics of the identity which then allows for a proper positioning of Christian initiation in fundamental-theological hermeneutics. An analysis of ritual and identity templates aims to identify the order of symbolic processes distinguishing their initial and lasting role in man's growth. In keeping with this thinking which endeavours to legitimise itself as a reflection of various inductive approaches, the author attempts to outline the whole, conclusive hermeneutical moment to respond to the question of the symbolic-ritual identity of Christian initiation. In that regard, the author suggests four inclusive dialectics which offer a basis for a possible draft of the theology of initiation interwoven with phenomenological anthropology. This refers to a mystery-initiation and ritual-identity fulcrum for Christian initiation which is filled with procedural dynamics of faith and the ritual dimension of believing.
