Sažetak

The aim of this investigation was to establish if there are any differences in manifest anthropometrical space
between three players’ categories of first Croatian water polo league, and if they are, how they are manifested. The
sample of entities consists of 89 water polo players from eight clubs of Croatian first water polo league. Sample
of variables consists of 23 anthropometric measures based on IBP program. The analysis of variance (ANOVA)
and canonical discriminate analysis were performed. Group’s position in discriminative space is determinate
and presented by centroids of groups. Predicted group membership on the base of classification functions was
calculated. Given results affirm that there are differences among three categories of water polo players in manifest
anthropometrical space. The ANOVA results suggest significant differences among three players categories in
almost all anthropometric variables provided for detection of longitudinal dimensionality of skeleton, somewhat
less, but significant, anthropometric variables provided for detection of transversal dimensionality of skeleton,
then variables provided for detection of circular dimensionality with exception of variable OPPOTK. There are no
differences in variables provided for detection of under skin fat tissue with exception of variable NAPOTK. Groups
are discriminated with first and only statistically significant of two discriminate functions, over all variables of
anthropometrical status with exception of variables NAPOTK and NANADL which define the second (statistically not
important) discriminant function. Results of discriminant classification show that the third category is recognized with
the highest percentage (79,3%), the first category with lower percentage (63,3%) and the second category with the
lowest percentage (60,3%). The importance of this study is reflected in possible appliance of results immediately in
the primary selection, improvement and specialization of water polo players.
