Possibilities of waste disposal on the area of the Međimurje County in the case of the Totovec waste disposal yard

Sažetak
Waste managment has become an unavoidable problem nowadays. The problems of waste, particulary of municipal waste, have reached the critical level in entire Croatia, specially in Međimurje. The current data on landfills im Međimurje, officially collected from responsible local authorities in the 2000, 2001 and 2002, are given in the paper. Disposal capacities, quantities and types of disposed wastes, landfill recovery, treatment of landfill percolating waters and extraction of landfill gas, performance of environmental monitoring, as well as some environmentally significant characteristics of landfill sites, description of waste originating areas for particular landfill and waste transporting companies are presented in the paper. The integral system of waste managing impleies waste recycling, its collection, its use as well as its benefit to environment, economic optimisation and social acceptability. Each waste should be managed in an environmental and economically acceptable, i.e. maintainable way.
