Sažetak
In order to explain the meaning of encounter of history and anthropology, the author first
informs about the basics of the development of historiography and then about their
contemporary spreading and deepening. The notion of "man" as a subject of historical
research has spread from the "great men" worth remembering to the "small man", from
centres of power to marginal groups, from man seen only as a prominent individual --
— primarily politically prominent — to life and creation in all the fields of spiritual and
material culture; from man meaning exclusively male to female. The author finally directs
attention to the problems and weaknesses that emerge under the influence of symbolic
anthropology and its postmodern direction.
