Sažetak
This paper reviews the development of small entrepreneurship in the Republic of Croatia from 2003 to 2009. Legal forms of small enterprises with an accent on crafts and movement of employment are shown. Conditions of the functioning of small entrepreneurship, the role of the European Union in small entrepreneurship development and activities in which the largest number of small enterprises operate in the Republic of Croatia are determined. The role of small entrepreneurship in employment is analysed too. The movement of small enterprises in the Republic of Croatia is compared with the movement of small enterprises in the Republic of Slovenia. The research carried out has indicated that small enterprises in the Republic of Croatia and in the Republic of Slovenia have a similar tendency of movement. At the end, an overview of the maritime activity, as a strategic activity which provides great perspectives for small entrepreneurship, is given.
