May Theological Morality Overlook Speech About God?

Sažetak
Catholic moral theologians are, today more than ever before, developing a sensitivity to contemporary challenges such as globalization, pluralism and dialogue. Their unique response to these challenges was the recently held congress on a global intercultural level, the first of its paraticular kind. The main purpose of the gathering in Padua in July of this year was evident in the desire of Catholic moralists to carry out, in accordance with the challenges and opportunities of this particular moment in time, more fully and to the best of their ability, their threefold ministry as regards the universal Church, individual faithful and the whole world. The congress was an opportunity to experience the prevailing unity and solidarity within the Church: it was a priveleged occasion for an exchange of moral experiences and reflections and also an opportunity for achieving global insight into present events as well as the future development of postconciliatory moral theology.
It is interesting to note that the introductory guidelines of the congress focused upon contemporary moral challenges such as bioethics, human rights and economic as well as international relations; that is, the congress stressed the issues of poverty and social inequality as the primary concern of all seven continents and of the whole world. With the latter guidelines and concerns in mind, we must also emphasize that the congress focused on the importance of the teological dimension of morality, and that it did engage in speech about God; however, we must also stress that its main concern was applied morality and speech about man. In this respect we would do well to analayze the congress from the aspect of its predominant concern for man, that is, we must ask whether this concern is an authentic expression of God's love for man or whether it is in fact a sign of reluctance to engage in speech about God.
