THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HIGH-EFFICIENCY RAILWAY ZAGREB - RIJEKA FOR THE PORT OF RIJEKA DEVELOPMENT

Sažetak

In this paper the authors emphasize the significance of high-efficiency railway Zagreb - Rijeka for the development of the Port of Rijeka. Given that the railway connections with the Port of Rijeka are not at the appropriate level, and the existing share of railway in the transport of goods which have their source or destination in the Port of Rijeka is approximately 30%, the construction of a new railway imposes as a necessity. In this paper, geographical and transportation features of the Port of Rijeka are presented, land transport to/from the Port of Rijeka is analyzed, and the forecast of railway transport and the development plans for the Port of Rijeka are presented. After a brief overview of the existing railway Zagreb - Rijeka, the transport, technical and exploitation features of a new high-efficiency railway have been analyzed and an interaction effect of the railway connection on the development of the Port of Rijeka has been determined.
