Sažetak

Chlamydia trachomatis genital infection is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection worldwide. The majority of patients infected with C. trachomatis are asymptomatic and significant proportion of them remain undiagnosed and can develop complications of infection. We report a 67-year-old patient with asymptomatic infection and endocervical swab positive for C. trachomatis. The patient had already received azithromycin orally for C. trachomatis infection. After administered treatment, endocervical swab proved negative for C. trachomatis. The patient was now again treated with azithromycin parenterally and was descharged from hospital. One month later, the control endocervical swab was again positive for C. trachomatis. Ofloxacin was administered for 14 days, after which the control swab was negative. We speculate that this was a case of persistent C. trachomatis infection that wasn't recognized in her younger age. Screening for chlamydial infection might reduce the incidence of complications such as chronic pelvic pain.
