Sažetak

Diocletian’s Palace in Split was built in the period 295-305, and is considered as one of the most significant and the best preserved monument of Late Antiquity. Therefore, it has been continually attracting the attention of national and international scientists since
the 16th century. In 1979, the palace was included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. In this paper, the author reviews archaeological research and conservation-restoration interventions that were carried out within the palace, in the period 1994-2009. The interventions
are presented in tables and divided in four categories: archaeological preservation research, conservation-restoration work on mosaics, conservation-restoration work on stone-decorative plaster, conservation-restoration work on plaster. The interventions are listed in chronological order; each table containing facts about participants in the listed project categories, the duration of the projects, intervention related bibliography, publications, documentation and
exhibitions. The author neither analyses the results of archaeological preservation research nor discusses the methodology of conservation-restoration work. The facts obtained from the
research are included in the charts which show a gradual rise in the awareness of rich cultural heritage and its protection and restoration. The charts also show the development of the professional field itself.
On the basis of the research and the analysis of graphically processed data, the author concludes that the awareness of the protection and restoration of heritage has been rising steadily
since 1994. The reasons for this continual rise in the so-called heritage awareness may be found in the development of the professional field, in the enthusiastic acceptance of the most
recent standards and trends in the conservation-restoration field, and, finally, in the rekindled national awareness after the Croatian Liberation War.
