DOTT. ROKO MIŠETIĆ (1845-1908), INSIGNE MEDICO, PATRIOTA, PERSONAGGIO PUBBLICO ED UMANITARIO

Abstract

This essay describes the life of Dr Roko Mišetić who was born in Brač in 1845 and died in Dubrovnik in 1908. He graduated from a grammar school in Split and the High School of Medicine in Vienna, where he worked for two years at the Surgery Clinic of professor Billroth and at the Internal Clinic of professor Schrötter. For a short time, he worked in Postire on the island of Brač and then he was appointed to the Regional Hospital of Dubrovnik as a primary physician, where he stayed till 1880. In the meantime, he served the Prince of Montenegro and took part as a physician in the Herzegovinian Rebellion (1875-1876). From 1880 to 1886 he was a court physician in Cetinje. For short he was the head of the Zadar hospital. In 1887, he returned to Dubrovnik as the head the new hospital,
where he stayed until his death in 1908. Dr Mišetić was an excellent practitioner, and organiser, and an eminent public figure with advanced political and patriotic views.
