Abstract

This special issue of Business Systems Research (SI of the BSR) is being co-published by the Slovenian Society INFORMATIKA – Section for Operational Research (SSI -SOR). It focuses on recent advances in Operations Research and Management Science (OR / MS), with a particular emphasis on linking OR / MS with other areas of quantitative and qualitative methods in the context of a multidisciplinary framework. The ten papers that were chosen for this Special Issue of the BSR present advancements and new techniques (methodology) in the field of Operations Research (OR), as well as their application in a variety of fields, including risk management, mathematical programming, game theory, gravity, spatial analysis, logistics, circular economy, continuous improvement, sustainability, e-commerce, forecasting, Gaussian processes, linear regression, multi-layer perceptron, and machine learning.

Lidija Zadnik Stirn is a president of the Slovenian Society INFORMATIKA – Section for Operational Research (SSI-SOR); member of the board of the Slovenian Society INFORMATIKA (SSI); Representative of SSI-SOR in International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS); Representative of SSI-SOR in Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO); Co-editor of Central European Journal of Operations Research (CEJOR); Co-editor of several proceedings of the international symposia on operations research in Slovenia (Proceedings of SOR); Member of Editorial board of Croatian Operational Research Review (CrORR). Berislav Žmuk, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics and Business, Zagreb

Berislav Žmuk is an Associate Professor who graduated with a major in Accounting, postgraduate Statistical Methods for Economic Analysis and Forecasting, and gained his PhD in Business Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Economics and Business, the University of Zagreb, where he teaches the following subjects: Statistics, Business Statistics, Business Forecasting and Introduction to Economic Statistics. He served as a president of the Croatian Statistical Association.
