Mercerizing processes are discussed and the effects obtained interpreted. By means of the analysis, the convenience of the cold mercerizing process for mass application could be proved, particularly for boiled and bleached fabrics. A treatment in liquid amoniak has advantages in mercerizing of tightly constructed denims and articles that have to be crease-resistant aftertreated. For this treatment special machinery must be available. The dependence of mercerizing effects obtained by classical process on the fabric is particularly outlined. Special modified method by Mecheels for determination of the contraction of threads in the mercerizing liquor in dependence on their construction is explained. Special attention is devoted to the mercerizing of knitwear.

Impregnation and Reimpregnation in Perchlorethylene Liquor

In the liquor of organic solvent perchlorethylene, the waterrepellent and oil-repellent, as well as combined water- and oil repellent impregnation of fabrics of PES/cotton and PES/wool blends was carried out. The reimpregnation of worn out clothes made also of blends mentioned was investigated. In addition, the effects of impregnation and reimpregnation were examined. The results obtained showed, that theses procedures can successfully be used. The performance properties on the cleaned and reimpregnated clothes are considerably improved and their durability pro- longued.
