Abstract
This interpretative trajectory is possible because by adopting Classical utilitarian views, both conceived of human beings as subject to high moral standards. By developing such forms of utilitarianism they led it in the direction of contemporary views, such as, for example, Singer’s preference utilitarianism. Thems in the works of these philosophers were: pleasure and pain, utility, self-love (egoism), utilitarianism and its overcoming.
