Sažetak
In the period of 15 years (1996-2011) Franjo Emanuel Hoško published his church and historical tetralogy on the events of life of the Catholic Church in Slavonia and the Danube area from the 18th century to the end of the 19th century. The books were titled after four Franciscans members of the Slavonian Danube Province of St Ivan Kapistranski, who lived and worked during the time of Josephinism and Liberalism, so author concentrates on the mentioned ideological and socio-political events of the time. The first book is about Josip Pavišević (1734-1803), who is a direct witness of radical Josephinism and its pitiless impinging on Franciscan life and their pastoral activities. The second book discovers the figure of Grga Čevapović (1786-1830), who denies organization of the late Josephinism and the early Liberalism pointing out to their negative influences on the life of the Church and Franciscans, trying to restore possible Franciscan life with reasonable methods. The thirds book deals with the younger Čevapović's contemporary Marijan Jaić (1795-1858) presenting him as a church restorer among Croatian regenerators. Ban Josip Jelačić in 1750 admitted to Jajić that he with his literary work and musical creativities tries, like himself, “national regeneration and spiritual renovation”. The fourth book presents historian Euzebije Fermendžin (1845-1897), who deserved membership of the former JAZU for his gathering and publishing historical sources. It is hardly known that he, for more than ten years, interceded in Rome that the new general Franciscan code should clearly include the apostolic role of Franciscans and their mission of the Church. He was convinced about it as he knew that Croats were familiar with Franciscan history, and his high administrative service established him in his belief that the apostolic work was a prerequiste for the Franciscans in the Hungarian part of the Austria-Hungary to carry out a hard process of abandoning Josephinistic's heritage and adopting principles of the complete and original Franciscan order. So, he prophetically defined Croatian Franciscans of continual vitality. Hoško's tetralogy presents a contribution for better knowledge of the Croatian church history in Slavonia and the Danube region in the 18th and the 19th century. But his work does not only include themes of the church pastoral history as getting to know them means explaining the tipology of Croatian Catholics of the time, as well as the figure of Croatian Franciscans.
