Abstract

Sol-gel process is one of the newest and completely different approaches to surface modification of textile materials. It is considered to be one of the most important discoveries of the materials science and engineering in the last decades. In the field of textile technology sol-gel process provides great opportunities in terms of designing and achieving completely new surface properties of textiles. Organic-inorganic hybrid materials were investigated and developed, offering a combination of inorganic and organic components at the molecular level. Such modifications of textile surface resulted in new multifunctional protective properties of textile materials, i.e. in obtaining high-performance fabrics for special purposes – antistatic protection. Such modification has very important ramifications, as its successful implementation protects what is most valuable – human life.
