Sažetak
The aim of this study is to estemate genetic conservation index (GCI), characterize population structure and parameters of the herd and to determine individual genetic contribution of county subpopulations to total genetic variability of autochthonous cattle breed Busha. As expected, average coefficient GCI in whole Busha pedigree (2,167) is less and with larger variation in comparison to the reference population (2,476). Through generation, increased value of GCI coefficient is observed, which indicates that with every new generation of offspring, there is larger connection of individuals in population. Consequently, in future period, decreased genetic variability and increased inbreeding in population are inevitable. That confirms narrow and positive correlation between pedigree informativity and year of calving with GCI coefficient. Negative correlation between GCI coefficient and inbreeding is also expected, considering that GCI is based on balanced contribution of maximum possible number of ancestors of initial population of the breed (idealy all the ancestors). Equalizing of Cfe and Cs parameters in Busha pedigree in third generation of ancestors points on small genetic basis of the initial Busha population. Three county subpopulations of busha are categorized as multiplier and seven as commercial herd.
