RARE TUMORS IN CHILDREN

Jelena Roganović ; Klinika za pedijatriju, Klinički bolnički centar Rijeka, Istarska 43, Rijeka

Sažetak

Pediatric rare cancers account for approximately 9% of all childhood malignancies. There is no generally accepted definition of this heterogeneous group of tumors. It mainly involves pediatric epithelial neoplasms for which there is no available clinical trial. Considering limited studies and sparse clinical and biological data, there are difficulties in creating standardized diagnostic and treatment guidelines. International collaboration with cooperative expert groups, tissue banking for additional biologic studies and specialized departments for selected rare cancers will significantly improve the outcome of treatment of children with rare tumors.
