Abstract
In this study, the effect of two different fluoride concentrations of amine fluoride solutions with two different frequencies of application
on the mean two-year caries increment in 3-5-year-old children, was examined. In a double-blind clinical study involving 415 kindergarten
children, the mean caries increment (dmft and dmfs) was compa-red after topical application o f amine fluoride solution with 1 % and 0.5 % F with two different frequencies of application (5 and 10 times a year) and a placebo solution. Differences in the mean dmft and dmfs increment of 1.2 (a 28.6% reduction) and2.8 (a 23% reduction), respectively, were found between the study group in whom a low fluoride solution with 0.5% F was frequently applied (every month) and the control group. These differences were statistically significant. The mean dmfs increment in the group with 1 % F (5 times a year) was by 2.9 surfaces (a 24% reduction) lower than in the control group, which was also statistically significant. Results of the trial suggested the fluoride solution to be efficient in caries prevention if a lower fluoride concentration (0.5% F) is more frequently applied in the amine fluoride solution.
