Abstract

An epidemiological study of the periodontal disease and dental caries prevalence was carried out in a sample of 3176 examinees on the Broader territory of Zagreb. The standards and methods recommended by the World Health Organization, the CPITN and DMF indices in particular, were used for the oral health registration. Prevalence of periodontal disease is very high. Gingivitis appears very early, and deep pockets have been found with 20-year old subject already, and their number increases progressively with age.
Much attention is still being paid to the problem of caries. The DMF index shows an abrupt increase after 15 years age, and the adult population aged 35-44 was found to have 9 extracted, 5 treated and 2 carious teeth. The results of the research show the neccessity to undertake a number of measures in order to improve the oral health.
