The Most Significant Values of the Preventive System
Jean Marie Petitclerc
; Argenteuil, Francuska
Sažetak
Both the 19th century when the great educator John Bosco lived and today's day are times of crisis. This crisis especially effects youth, which in turn causes difficulties in education. Don Bosco recognized in his time that the violence of the youth in the suburbs of Turin was because of a lack of formation. He was convinced that during times of crisis, instability and mistrust in traditional educational institutions, educators must show their authority amongst youth through authenticity. Don Bosco's educational system continues to stress the importance of a qualitative relation between the educator and youth. In times of crisis youth lose trust in adults, they look towards the future with anxiety and they adapt to the process of socialization with difficulty. The educator that educates in the spirit of don Bosco's preventive system must promote a pedagogy of trust, which includes the respect of human rights of children and youth. The educator trusts the youth and is convinced that each young person has something positive to contribute. Thus, the educator will actively adapt a pedagogy of hope, peace and joyful tranquility in his educational work which in turn will help the youth to develop and mature into a responsible adult. As don Bosco, the educator will with words and action say to every young person: "I need you!" Finally, the educator will promote a pedagogy of communion, that is, a balanced distance and a balanced proximity.
