Sažetak
The article is dealing with two programmatic texts which have been printed in the first volume of the series Dani Hvarskoga kazališta, the publication which was published as additional material of the symposium Hvar Theatre Days. The first one is Five Centuries of Croatian Drama by Marin Franičević. The second one is Five Centuries of Croatian Theatre by Marko Fotez. The main problem in the first text is the delineation between Medieval creating and treating it as literacy, the Renaissance creating it as the beginning of »proper« literature. Franičević solves the problem of periodization of Croatian drama by classifying the material on older, newer and recent drama. Some other works in this volume absolutely rejected this model of periodization. Another Franičević’s problem is the question of classification of genres. This is a problem because of the unsolvable interlacing of phenomena, authors and genres. In his article Fotez announced a less precise approach. The advantage of Fotez’ approach is his constructive neglecting of pure differences between theatrical and para-theatrical forms. He does not insist on periodization and diversifications of genres and he treats them as a functional helping tool for the study of theater. The transition from Medieval period to the Renaissance is particularly important to Fotez, but he sees this transition as a transition from the religious to profane theater, which is a pretty mechanical approach. Leastways, Fotez modern view and theatrological approach is extremely actual even today. Franičević’s view of affirmation of national culture is not really correspondent to modern sensibility.
