Sažetak

Nonpharmacologic treatment is part of all guidelines for treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) and consist of exercises, electrotherapy/thermotherapy, aplication of orthotic devices and braces, changes of life style (reduction of body weight, adherence to exercises, adaptations in home or work environment), education and psychosocial support. Exercises or particularly adherence to exercises have impact on long term functional outcome and play a key role in overall treatment of OA. Electrotherapy/thermotherapy are passive methods that prepare joint for motion and ussually used in flare-up phases of disease. Early diagnosis of OA of the hip or knee, education and acceptance of home based exercises may prevent or at least delay disability.
