Abstract

Researching the measurements of Dalmatian municipalities during the Venetian period the author puts forth a number of observations concerning measurements for load capacities for ship in manuals from the 16th century (B. Paxi, J. Mariani). She concludes that the measurements in these sources, the milijar and the star, are Medieval measurements from the 15th century. There is no mention of new measurements of load capacities, the botte and the tonelatta. The number of times Croatian ports are mentioned, their measurements, if compared to Venice and other Mediterranean ports confirms their importance and their incorporation into the Mediterranean world.
