The Socialisational Role of the Family in the Development of Second Generation Yugoslavs in France

Sažetak
The particularities of the family and the consistency of the world for which it acts as an intermediary for the child are especially significant in the process of primary socialisation. The migrant family, whose socio-cultural model is generally different than that of the host country, by this very fact constitutes a socialisational factor presenting a certain hindrance to successful socialisation. Presenting data on the Yugoslav immigrant family in France, the author attempts to show that, although the family lies in different conditions, this does not necessarily have to be the cause of unsuccessful socialisation of the “second generation”. Success in socialisation depends on the humaneness of society and its socialisational influences on the family, and finally on the individual himself.
