Abstract

Underwater massage with a little air bubble (pearly bath) is a type of hydrotherapy. Some studies suggest that pearly bath might have positive effect on subjective measures of daily life activities. In this paper we compared effect of pearly bath in patient with multiple sclerosis applicated in the setting of the special hospital for
rehabilitation and at home. The study involved 15 subjects of both genders. They applied pearly bath three times a week during three weeks as perscribed by a specialist of physical and rehabilitation medicine. Initial and final functional status of the patients was assessed by Barthel Index. Improvement was observed in both settings of aplication. Somewhat higher efficiency was found at the spa, probably
due to benefitial conditions in wich the treatment was carried out, such as influence of thermomineral water and additional physical therapy. In this study pearly bath showed positive influence on quality of life on multiple sclerosis patient between two treatments in hospital for rehabilitation.
