Sažetak
In spite of increasingly more difficult economic problems, it is vital to accept the necessary changes in companies and on the labour market, not as a threat, but as an opportunity. Adapting to changes in order to succeed in surviving on the market, despite ever increasing competition, is possible primarily by using human potential, which is creative and flexible, but also multieducated with developed necessary skills. Reduction of the number of employees due to economic, technological and organizational reasons does not have to mean their transition into long-term unemployment. The process of adopting a redundancy social security plan normally implies cooperation between the employer, social partners and other stakeholders on the labour market by undertaking a number of possible measures and activities. When a number of redundant workers are established in a timely manner, through a predesigned programme, a number of possibilities appear for alternative employment of these workers, with assessing individual potentials, interests and appropriate educational and vocational programmes for professions needed on the labour market, as well as for independent entrepreneurial activities. Fast changes in working conditions, technology and constant demands of the market require lifelong learning and revision of existing programmes which may enable and increase the chances for new employment or starting up independent business. The basic goal to be achieved when it comes to prevention of unemployment in conditions of redundant workers is help, mediation, education and orientation towards new employment or self-employment. The goal of adopting and implementing educational programmes and other measures in order to prevent unemployment in conditions of employee redundancy is to allow these workers a realistic chance for survival on the labour market and to prepare them for their new profession or new opportunity to express entrepreneurial affinities and intentions.
