Sažetak
The paper discusses the reaction mechanisms of controlled / living free radical polymerizations, their advantages and disadvantages, as well as limitations and possible application of appropriate processes. Specifically, the reactions and processes initiated by bifunctional peroxide radical initiators, iniferters, azolinyl and nitroxide radical complexes (stable free radical polymerizations, nitroxide-mediated polymerization), transferable di- and tri-thioesters radical species (reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization), as well as by catalyst based on alkyl halides and transition metal complexes (atom transfer radical polymerization) are described.
Furthermore, the authors' results of controlled / living free radical polymerizations are described, including homo- and co-polymerization of styrene, methyl methacrylate, dodecyl methacrylate and octadecyl methacrylate using bifunctional peroxide initiator 1,1-bi(tert-butilperoxy)ciclohexane, nitroxide-initiator (TEMPO) and copper complex catalysts.
