PRINCIPLES OF TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION OF PATIENTS WITH PAINFUL LUMBAR SYNDROME

Sažetak

Conserva,ti.ve and opera·tive treatment is applied in the treatment of the painful
lumbar syndrome. TherapeUJtical success has been achieved in over 90 per cent of our
patients by conservative treatment and only a small number of patients had to
undergo surgical treatment.
Rest in one the antalgic position is indispensable in the acute phase of the painful
lumbar syndrome Ln addition to the application of non-steroid antiphlogistics and
physical therapy (cryo-massage in younger people and electro-analgesic procedures).
Electro-, thermo-, hydro- and kinesitherapy are applied in the chronic phase of
the pa.inful lu.mbar syndrome. Traction of the lumbar spine is undertaken for decompression
purposes. A lumbar corset is applied iln patients with grea.ter instability
and a hi.gher degree of deformity of the lumbar spine.
Psychotherapy and educa.tion of the pa.tients are integraJ. parts in the treatment
and rehabilita.tion of these patients.
