Sažetak
The investigations were carried out on a pig farm at Nova Topola using data on young boars of the Swedish Landrace breed. On the ground of the data available it was possible to determine the age of boards, their „live weight“ at the start of the test, their mass, food consumtion, daily weight gain during tests as well as their age and weight at the end of testing. The data showed that some boars whose weight was the lowest it the start had the lowest weight when leaving the test station, they had the smallest gain, were gaining at the lowest rate, consumed the least feed mix in total and per feeding day, but for a kilogram of live weight gain consumed the biggest amount of feed mix. The boars that were the heaviest at the end of their stay in the test station gained weight from the start of tests until leaving at the highest rate, did not consume the biggest amount of feed mix and used the least feed mix tor a kilo of body mass gain. The results of tests show that - the method of testing boars to select those that had a higher weight at the end of feeding were justified; - growth and food consumption were determined by their genetic properties; - critera in selecting boars for their growth may be the daily gain of 'live weight“ during tests from their age fixed for the start and the end of the tests; - criteria for selecting boars as regards their food utilization can be consumption of feed mix per day during the period of testing; -the period of testing can be shortened.
