Sažetak

Data consisted of 4659 first lactation cows sired by 35 Holstein- Friesian bulls in breeding conditions in Croatia. Breeding values of sires for milk yield, fat yield and fat content were estimated by two different models: Model 1 included group effect according to year of sire'sbirth; Model 2 used relationship matrix. Both models considered farm x year x season as fixed effects. The estimates of sires breeding values by model 1 different from those by model 2 to a small extent. Differences existed in estimates of young bulls with small number of information. Because the accuracy of estimated breeding values increases with increasing number of progeny information, the relationship model is generally superior to the group model. Some advantages and disadvantages of models were discussed.
