Sažetak

Essential oils are composed of a wide range of bioactive chemical compounds. Their traditional application was for flavor and fragrances. Today, essential oils are sought-after for innumerable applications starting from food industries all the way to chemical industries where they are used as a base for semisynthesis of highly complex molecules. The extraction of highly delicate essential oils from plants remains a crucial step in all these applications.
Since the 19th century, a controversial discussion has been going on about characteristic components of the essential oils of the wormwood plant Artemisia absinthium L., Artemisia vulgaris L., Salvia officinalis and other which are commonly used in the production process of alcoholic beverages.
Therefore, this research has been conducted in order to identify the chemical composition of the essential oils produced with different extraction techniques from Artemisia vulgaris L.
The results have shown that the portion of unacceptable level of some substances such as α-thujone and β-thujone was the lowest in samples that were produced by microwave assisted extraction techniques and it was 9.86% (w/w) and 11.28% (w/w).
