Sažetak
The beet nematode has been described in this paper, as well as the development cycle of this pest, including ways of pest control and damages that may occur in the production of sugar beet seed. Damages on the sugar beet crops which are caused by sugar beet nematode are manifested through the yield losses of the sugar beet root and lower digestion.
The measurements that are used to control pests are preventive only, which means that crop rotation should be wider, and the soil samples should be taken in order to identify if there are any of the nematode population present in the ground. KWS, the breeding and seeding company from Einbeck, Germany, has introduced sugar beet varieties which are highly tolerant to this pest and this way it has solved out the problem of seed production on infested soils/in infested conditions.
