Abstract

Agential nouns in English and Slovene technical language, more precisely in the language of textile engineering, will be studied. Ninety-two agential nouns were selected and their translation equivalents studied. The paper will focus on their translation patterns, with special stress on Slovene derivatives. Slovene derivatives, as counterparts of English agential nouns, take numerous suffixes: the frequency of suffixes will be presented, together with their semantics. The question to be answered is whether Slovene agential suffixes play any role in distinguishing between the animate and inanimate agentials in technical language.
