Extinguishing open space fires in Sisak

Abstract

Open space fires, mostly vegetation fires are complex natural phenomena comprised of various thermodynamic and aerodynamic events. They are significantly influenced by the configuration of the terrain across which the fire is spreading, characteristics of the burning vegetation and local weather conditions at the fire site. In the area of Sisak open space fires comprise over 30 percent of the overall number of field interventions. Due to such high percentage and time spent on extinguishing those fires, it has become necessary to test equipment, devices and tactics for extinguishing the forementioned type of fires. The results provided the most efficient tactics, devices and equipment for extinguishing open space fires in the area of Sisak. These findings present an excellent foundation on which, with the help of adequate knowledge and training, successful firefighting interventions can be built, regarding extinguishing open space fires in Sisak.
