Sažetak
The action of heavy metal salts (Cu, Mn, Fe, Zn, Pb) upon the chemiluminescence of luminol was studied. Hexacyanoferrate (III) was used as catalyst and the reaction mixture was applied both with and without hydrogen peroxide. The copper ion was found to inhibit chemiluminescence, but in lower concentrations in the presence of hydrogen peroxide it produced a moderate enhancing effect. The ions of manganese, iron and lead in lower concentrations enhanced the reaction in the absence of H2O2, but in higher concentrations their action proved inhibitory. With H2O2 present these ions exhibited a quenching effect upon the chemiluminescence of luminol. In a reaction mixture which did not contain H2O2 the zinc ion in lower concentrations moderately enhanced the maximal intensity, but in higher concentrations it produced a quenching effect. In the presence of H2O2 the zinc ion distinctly showed its enhancing activity in a rather limited range of concentrations. The most intense inhibition was produced by the ion of copper and the least intense by the zinc ion. The results are discussed and their practical aspects are dealt with.
