Abstract
From the fundamental principles of determinism (17th ‒ 19th century), certainty has remained a methodological rule for research, while the connection between cause and consequence a unique reminder of the causal principle.
Indeterminism (20th century) described the field of investigation as multiple possibilities, under whose conditions the sciences range from the most strict (mathematics), less strict (physics) to the least strict (history).
Kazimir Bedeković’s treatise Exercitatio philosophica in primam Newtoni regulam (1758) clearly reveals the presence of both approaches, which proves how relevant his understanding of science was even for our time. In addition, the fact that his views were founded on two Galilean methodological approaches to science should not be neglected―experience before and after proof.
