Development of social work and social workers’ education in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period of 1958 - 2012

Sažetak
This overview looks back at the long period of education of social workers, first at the College for Social Workers and later at the Department of Social Work at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo. The development of social work as a profession was
taking place in complex social conditions after the Second World War and the complex processes of industrialization, urbanization and population migrating.
Training of social workers in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1958 was going on simultaneously with the establishment and development of the school of social work in other republics of the former Yugoslavia.
The curricula were designed to provide a polyvalent education for future professionals for many reasons, what will be discussed here. The author gives an analysis of the development of curricula in a significant period of time, with particular reference to the last war period (1992-1995), as well as trends in enrolment of students through different periods of time. Also other important issues such as teachers’ capacity of the
Department of Social Work, scientific research and publishing as well as international cooperation are discussed.
