Abstract

From 1953 to 1962, at the Department of Occupational Diseases of the Institute for Medical Research, incorporating the Institute of Hygiene, and the Department of Clinical Toxicology of the University Hospital in Zagreb, treatment was given to 1,321 patients suffering from either occupational diseases or suicidal or accidental poisoning, of which 22 with fatal issue. There were 324 patients affected by occupational diseases (1 with fatal issue), 703 cases of suicidal poisoning (19 with fatal issue), and 294 cases of occupational poisoning (2 with fatal issue). Most poisonings were due to hypnotics and sedatives in the group of suicidal poisoning, to lead and ethyl alcohol in the group of occupational poisoning, and to· lead and »food« in the group of other poisonings.
