Abstract

Even though more than 70 years have passed since the book "The science of bone fractures and ankle sprain" by Dr Vatroslav
Florschütz was published, many of its chapters are in some segments still actual. The book analyzes the approach to gunshot wounds from the segment of the mechanism of their origin, the features of particular types of wounds and their treatment. Florschütz brings into his book his own experience as a World War I surgeon as well as the precepts of that time in the field of pathophysiology, pathology, immunology, histology, surgery and especially traumatology. Although a lot of things in the treatment of war wounds have
changed (antibiotics, external fixators, diagnostics), the basic precepts of their treatment have not undergone great aberrations from the original postulates. Therefore, his book is not only an interesting document of a past time, but has practical valued today.
