Hunt's syndrome — clinical observations
Martin Rašić
Zvonimir Đurđević
Abstract
Nine patients suffering from Hunt’s syndrome have been examined completely. The diagnoses were set on the basis of characteristic clinical symptoms only, without specific serological tests, unavailable to the authors. Sex and age of the patients have been analyzed as well as their symptoms, the intensity of the palsy and the response to the treatment. Facial nerve palsy in Hunt’s syndrome patients has been established as more prominent and with a less favourable recovery course and prognosis than in Bell’s facial nerve palsy. Referring to the available medical literature and their own observations, the authors consider Hunt’s syndrome as a virus infection probably representing a clinical manifestation of viral polyneuritis of the cranial nerves.
