Sažetak

From the group of newborns at risk, 64 infants with early brain lesions were chosen, who were followed up prospectively during the first year of life. The aim was to get insight into the evolution of their lesions by contemporary diagnostic procedures. Those infants were born in our maternity hospital in the period from May 1st, 1986 to May 1st, 1987 and they weretreated and followed up at the Department of Paediatrics. The group comprised the infants with early brain lesions, such as hemorrhage, anoxic-ischaemic lesions, or inflammatory changes in CNS as well as the infants with low birth weight (under 1500 g) and those with severe asphyxia. The results at 12 months of age were the following: psychomotor development was normal in 27 infants (42.18 %), on the border line in 12 (25 %) and 9 infants (14.06 %) had severe forms of cerebral paralysis. The quotient of development was delayed in 8 infants (12.5 %), on the border line in
11 (17.18 %) and normal in 45 (70.34 %). The cure and improvement rates in these patients depend upon an early diagnosis and, accordingly, an early treatment.
