Sažetak
The paper discusses the possibilities of public participation in decision-making related to environmental matters, whose normative regulation in Croatia is undergoing considerable developments. These developments are a consequence of coming into force of the Aarhus Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (June 2007), the new Environment Protection Act (November 2007), and the process of harmonisation of the Croatian legal system with the EU acquis communautaire. These pieces of legislation have created the preconditions for greater possibilities of public participation in decision-making procedures concerning environmental matters. Nevertheless, practical implementation of the Aarhus Convention and Community Directives will present a far greater challenge, which will also depend on the level of public interest in environmental matters.
