Sažetak

The paper analyses the situation in utility services in the Republic of Croatia. Individual utility services prescribed by the Law on Utility Services are analysed separately. The author deals with the following services: public water supply, sewage and sewage treatment, public transport, cleaning, waste disposal, maintenance of public parks and other areas, maintenance of public unclassified roads, public markets, maintenance of cemeteries and crematories, chimneysweeping,
public lighting. The development of these services indicates the necessity of privatisation, of creating the large functional systems of utility services, and of adaptation to European standards. Utility services are an important element of city and town management and of providing citizens with important public services, which is in correlation to their satisfaction with public administration and the whole public sector. The author makes suggestions for improving legal regulation related to utility services.
