Sažetak

The paper is an analysis of the legal effects of an Act of God, one of the ''excepted perils'' cited in the Hague Rules. A comparison is made between the solutions contained in the Italian, French and Soviet legislation since this term has been adopted from the Hague Rules either as a ''force majeure'' or an ''accident'' because in the theory and judicature it is not strictly defined.
Our Maritime and Inland Navigation Law uses a clearer and more precise formulation of ''force majeure'', which should be understood as an exterior, unforeseen and inevitable event caused by man or nature
