Sažetak

The Committee on Shipping held its 14th regular session in Geneva, 21-29 June 1990. On its agenda were: multimodal transport, economic co-operation among developing countries in the field of shipping , ports and multimodal transport, and the work programme of the Committee.
It was stressed that continuous efforts have to be made in these fields both by developing and developed countries, aiming at improving the world shipping industry, in order to minimize the impact of the continuing weakness and instability in major commodity markets and the crippling debt burden, that continues to have a profoundly adverse effect on the economic and social development of a large number of developing countries and regions. The view was expressed that the Shipping Committee of UNCTAD was the appropriate venue for finding the necessary solutions to the problems facing developing countries and their shipping industry, and to give new impetus to the development of this important sector, so that it could once more play the role of a catalyst for trade and be an important tool in the integration of developing countries in the world economy.
At the fourteenth session four resolutions were adopted.
